I use eco complete as well as sand, I don't mix them but I aqua cape with the sand. Ecocomplete is substrate for plants, it has all the nutrients needed for plants. It also has the ability to turn fish waste and uneaten food into to plant food. This is a great product. My plants thrive in this stuff.
